Ore. considers universal school meal program

Legislation has been proposed in the Oregon Legislature to allocate state funds for a permanent universal school meal program, which the state's Department of Education calculated could cost between $145 million and $377 million for the next two school years. "We understand how critical it is for all children to have adequate nutrition, and we want to make that (happen) as soon as possible," said Rep. Courtney Neron, a sponsor of the bill.
