Proposed bill prohibits cell-based meat in school lunches

A recent bill introduced in the US Senate that aims to ban the use of cell-cultured meat in school lunches has been referred to the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry. The office of Sen. Mike Rounds, who co-sponsored the bill, highlighted the food safety risks associated with a "lack of demonstrated research on cell-cultivated protein" as well as a lack of existing guidance from the USDA on the use of cultivated meat in the National School Lunch Program or the School Breakfast Program.
