Number of food-insecure households in US increasing

The number of Americans living in households dealing with food insecurity jumped from 33.8 million in 2021 to 44.2 million last year, while the percentage of households with very low food security rose from 3.8% to 5.1% during the period, according to a report from the Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service. Food insecurity was more prevalent in rural areas than urban areas, and Black and Latino households were more likely to experience food insecurity.
