An executive order on AI signed this week by President Joe Biden has several directives that address the use of the technology in schools, requiring US Department of Justice officials to work with federal civil rights officials to prevent potential tech-driven discrimination. The order also requires equity-focused AI-use guidance from the US Department of Education -- including an AI tool kit -- as well as requirements that tech companies test their products for safety and data privacy, particularly products that can monitor online activity.
