Maine mulls extending school lunch periods to 30 minutes

Lawmakers in Maine are considering legislation that would require schools to provide K-12 students at least 30 minutes for school lunch. While supporters say 20 minutes is insufficient time for students to eat their meals and causes food waste, the legislation includes a provision that allows districts to opt out if the change would be too burdensome.
