Several states -- California, Colorado, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, New Mexico and Vermont -- have passed legislation to bring back free school meals for all students on a permanent basis after federal pandemic-era waivers expired. The move comes as the School Nutrition Association reports that many school districts have to raise meal prices due to inflation.
