Number of children losing Medicaid since April hits 500K

The number of children who have lost Medicaid coverage since states resumed checking eligibility after COVID-19 administrative protections ended has exceeded 500,000, with 21 states documenting declines. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is taking several steps as procedural complications have made it more difficult to maintain enrollment, such as suspending coverage denials in six states and directing resources toward outreach as children return to school.
