Free school meals expanded in Conn. for upcoming year

Eligibility for free breakfast will be extended to more than 177,243 students in roughly 114 Connecticut districts this school year and around 13,197 more students in approximately 128 districts will have access to free lunch, according to Gov. Ned Lamont and Department of Education Commissioner Charlene Russell-Tucker. The state is using $16 million in American Rescue Plan Act funds to enable students that qualified for reduced-price meals to receive those meals for free.
