$6.3M Ga. grant keeps meals free for qualified families

The federal pandemic-era waivers that enabled universal school meal service have expired, but families in Georgia that qualify for reduced-price meals will not have to pay this school year due to a $6.3 million state grant. Georgia is also among 14 states that the USDA has authorized to use Medicaid data as a certification mechanism for free- and reduced-meal eligibility.
