S.C. considers reinstating free school meals

Efforts are underway in South Carolina to reinstate a federal program that provided free meals at public schools, with the Child Food and Nutrition Services Study Committee examining the benefits, costs and potential shift to a farm-to-lunch table approach. While considering potential costs and benefits, lawmakers are studying the feasibility of transitioning nutritional programs from the Department of Education to the Department of Agriculture, focusing on improving child well-being and addressing food insecurity.
