28 groups ask USDA to offer soy milk in schools

Twenty-eight civil rights and health care organizations are asking the USDA to offer soy milk as an official substitute for dairy milk in the National School Lunch Program, saying a significant number of Black, Latino, Asian and Indigenous people are lactose intolerant. Right now, a written request from a parent, guardian or doctor must be provided to make the substitution, which the groups say is unreasonable because the problem is ubiquitous and could be easily remedied.
