Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee, wants to add an extension of pandemic waivers allowing free universal meals to all schoolchildren, which are set to expire at the end of June, to a COVID-19 funding bill. The move is expected to see Republican opposition, but Stabenow says it would affect the ability of 30 million children to gain access to healthful food in summer and school programs.
