This year, nine states will continue offering free universal school lunches -- a decline from last year -- as Nevada ends its program due to a veto by Gov. Joe Lombardo. The federal waivers that initially funded these meals during the pandemic has largely ended, leaving states to decide whether to continue funding the initiative independently.
