RD looks at caffeine intake timing, impact on health

When you consume coffee or caffeinated beverages, it can have an impact on blood sugar, hormones such as cortisol, energy levels and sleep quality, according to registered dietitian Jillian Kubala, who reviews the impact of caffeine intake at various times throughout the day. While Kubala says "no solid scientific evidence indicates a 'best time' to drink coffee," she adds "for people with high blood sugar levels and those under stress, it may be best to delay your morning coffee until after you've had a nutritious, protein-rich meal, which can help balance blood sugar and cortisol levels."
