USDA issues final school meal nutrition standards
April 24, 2024
The USDA has issued the final rule limiting the amount of added sugar allowed in products like cereal, yogurt and flavored milk served in school meals beginning in fall 2025, and reducing sodium by 15% beginning in fall 2027. Chris Derico, president of the School Nutrition Association, applauded the rule, calling it "more attainable, long-term nutrition goals that acknowledge the tremendous challenges schools face when working to adjust menus and gain student acceptance of healthier meals."
