Mandated days, hours of school attendance vary widely

The amount of class time students in the US receive varies widely from state to state, with states measuring their mandates in days ranging from 160 in Colorado to 186 in Kansas and those using educational hours as a gauge spanning from 720 in Arizona to 1,260 in Texas, according to a study in the American Education Research Journal. Prioritizing instructional time is essential no matter the number of days or hours of education mandated, says Emily Morton of the Center for Analysis of Longitudinal Data in Education Research.
