Universal school meal benefits add up for Mich. students
July 11, 2024
Michigan students have made academic gains and experienced health benefits since a statewide universal school meal program was established for the 2023-24 school year, which also erased school lunch debt that rose sharply after federal pandemic waivers for universal school meals expired. The state's program "has been more popular than we ever imagined," said Diane Golzynski, deputy superintendent of the Michigan Department of Education. "We are truly investing in families and students."
