Surveys: US consumers lack confidence in food safety

American confidence in food safety has hit an all-time low, according to recent Gallup and IFIC surveys. Gallup reports that 28% of respondents have little confidence in the safety of the food supply and 14% have none. Confidence is particularly low among parents of young children and those with lower incomes and education levels. The increase in food recalls, with 578 products recalled in the first half of 2024, has significantly impacted public trust.
