Utah advances bill to expand free school lunch program

The Utah House Education Committee has advanced House Bill 100, which would expand free school lunches to 40,000 more children by raising the income threshold for eligibility. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Tyler Clancy, would cost $6 million annually, but a substitute version limits eligibility to students in kindergarten through sixth grade to reduce the financial impact.
