More than 80 members of North Dakota's Together for School Meals Coalition joined in a statement expressing disappointment regarding the defeat of House Bill 1475, which would have authorized free school meals for all students in the state. Coalition members said the bill would have provided financial relief to families already struggling, reduced stigma experienced by students who have school meal debt, eased stress on school nutrition staff managing unpaid fees and contributed to the state's overall health goals.
