Mass. students benefit from universal school meals

Five states -- California, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada and Vermont -- adopted universal school meals, offering free meals to every student this school year after USDA waivers expired, and the measure to invest $110 million in Massachusetts' program received widespread support. "[Students] don't have to worry whether there is money in their account, there is no stigma, everyone is equal," said Sarah Coughlin, director of school food and nutrition for Massachusetts' Braintree Public Schools.
