N.C. district seeks funds to cover unpaid lunches

Officials in Buncombe County Schools in North Carolina are reaching out to the community and drawing on other school funds to help cover the mounting costs of unpaid school lunches, which is attributed to the end of pandemic-era federal waivers that enabled universal school meals. Lisa Payne, nutrition director for the district, said the district will continue to feed students, despite the roughly $112,000 in debt.
