Food Science Students Learn Preservation Techniques

Students from a school in Granite Falls, Minn., are gaining experience in various methods of food preservation, such as canning tomato sauces, jams and pickles. Students have been learning other approaches to creating and saving food, such as milling wheat to make flour for bread and pizza crust, dehydrating meat to make jerky as well as drying fruit and herbs, says program adviser Ben Lecy, who is planning a similar class for adults.
