House Hunger Caucus
One Hour, One Day: Focus on Hunger
June 25, 2009
Dear Colleague,
We invite you to join us in dedicating one hour of one day
during the August recess to focus on efforts to fight hunger in your
congressional district.
Often, the stereotypical face of hunger is that of someone living in a far
away place in hard–to-pronounce cities; of swollen bellies and sunken eyes.
However, we know that no community is hunger free and that there are people
who struggle with hunger in every congressional district across the nation.
Recently, two of our colleagues, Representatives Space and Wolf,
participated in events to raise awareness about hunger in their respective
districts. Representative Space represents a Rust-Belt rural district with
a median income below the national average. Representative Wolf represents
an East Coast urban district with a median income well above the national
average. Like the diverse nature of our nation, the diversity between
these districts is important and a blessing; however, one shared experience
is hunger. And both of our colleagues recognize that hunger is affecting
their constituents and that it must be addressed.
To raise awareness about the problem of hunger in the United States, please
join us in dedicating one hour of one day during the August recess to focus
on efforts to fight hunger in your congressional district. By working
together, we can have a major impact on raising awareness about the problem
of hunger in America and supporting efforts that are helping families put
food on the table. Eileen Hyde is available to work with you and your
staff to help coordinate the logistics of this event. If you have
questions about this event, please feel free to contact any of us, our
staff, or Eileen at eileen.hyde@mail.house.gov or 5-6101.
